Each puppy or adult dog is different and has their own breed specific and gender specific tendancies. Canine Cadre, Canine Behaviorists, have a hugh advantage in that we delve deeper into the psyche of the canine and ascertain why they have certain problems and teach YOU how to properly modify them.
What is Behavior Modification? According to the Dictionary: Behavior: The manner in which one behaves. The action or reactions of a person or animal in response to external or internal stimuli.
Modification: The act of modifying or the condition of being modified; a small alteration, adjustment or limitation.
What does that mean to you and your dog?
That means, we are going to CHANGE (or modify) how you and your dog ACT and REACT to certain situations. Importantly, etiology (or cause) comes before the effect.
Behavior: What is acceptable?
- Does your loveable pooch life his leg to urinate on every table leg in the house?;
- Does Fifi feel that she has to steal a snack from the garbage or tabletop everytime you turn your head?;
- Or does she tear your house apart while you are away at work?;
- Or what about sweet innocent little Fluffy who growls and snarls at you while you try to take her toy away or go into her food bowl?;
- Does Chomper like to chew on everything but his?;
Unfortunately, this list can go on and on....
Did you know that all the above are all unacceptable behaviors in dogs? Some of these problems can cost you alot of moeny like replacing furniture, cleaning supplies, unnecessary hassles with your neighbors, even injury and what upsets me personally is the anxiety the dog feels. Remember, some behaviors are natural to dogs and they act like nothing is wrong until the proper manners are established.
Can you afford to pay insurance companies and lawyers if your dog bites a child and y ou have to face court plus the guilt of knowing you have a serious problem dog?

To solve behavior problems, one must seek a qualified behaviorist, employ a sound behavior modification program and follow through to fruition. Traditional public obedience training classes alone has little to do with behavior modification and should NOT be utilized to try and solve behavior problems. In some situations, it could be exacerbate the problem(s).
For example, merely punishing the dog will do nothing to address the underlying reasons/causes or the behavior itself and may fail and actually make the problem worse.
However, if you understand and work to address the root of the problem in an educated, consistent, clear and humane manner, you will be rewarded with an enjoyable companion for years to come.
'But I only have a puppy and she doesn't need behavior modification.' Behavior
modification, shaping, imprinting will actually prevent behavior problems.
'As with most behavior problems are treatable, prevention is easier'.
