Federal Emergency Management Association/Homeland Security requirements mandate that a certifiable Search and Rescue Dog have a minimum of 30 hours of private instruction, including up to 300 hours of proficiency training at home. Canine Cadre accomplishes that in ten - block sections, taking the client from comprehensive study of SAR and moving to military and free-style scouting (air scenting) for responsive and non-responsive victims. The final exam is a 40 acre test plus 'rubble work.'
Some clients are able to achieve progress, at all levels, sooner than other
clients. Some dogs need more training/shaping and some dogs and clients need
less time. We start with blocks of training in consideration of the average
time of completion.
