SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM TRAINING PROGRAMS
The only pre-requisites are good health, socialization skills, and stamina of dog and client. Further, dogs like German Shepherd Dogs, Labradors, Goldens, Flat-Coated, and Chesapeake Retrievers, Springer Spaniels, etc., are more suited to Search and Rescue field work.
Pre-Screening: Candidates will be interviewed and their dogs will be presented with a search problem initially. This scouting (air scenting) test will help determine if the dog has the constancy (fidelity) to work in a Search and Resuce endeavor with his/her handler.

Federal Emergency Management Association/Homeland Security requirements mandate that a certifiable Search and Rescue Dog have a minimum of 30 hours of private instruction, including up to 300 hours of proficiency training at home. Canine Cadre accomplishes that in ten - block sections, taking the client from comprehensive study of SAR and moving to military and free-style scouting (air scenting) for responsive and non-responsive victims. The final exam is a 40 acre test plus 'rubble work.'

Some clients are able to achieve progress, at all levels, sooner than other clients. Some dogs need more training/shaping and some dogs and clients need less time. We start with blocks of training in consideration of the average time of completion.
